Life Scout
Matthew (Matt) Ryan
completed his Eagle Scout project
in the Adobe courtyard
in 2006
just before the
New Years holiday
|
|
An Eagle Scout
project is designed to demonstrate leadership skills by planning and
carrying out a community service project. Matt's two-part project
consisted of building a new table for our school outreach program and
refurbishing a peddler's cart we use at various events.
|

First, Matt, a
member of Troop 103 in Ventura, approached us to asses our needs, then
drew a plan. After the proposed plan was approved, Matt drew a
materials list and rounded up a few friends to raise funds with a
weekend car wash.
|

Next, he purchased
materials and constructed the table in modules in his driveway. Then,
he and his friends Michael Ray, Halen Buker, Weston Buker, Harrison
Buker, Eric Dilley, Paul Linman, William Osman and brother, Mike Ryan,
moved into the courtyard and went to work
|

They assembled the
various modules of the table, painted it and set it in place
|

Then, on to phase
two. The peddler's cart had to be completely disassembled and stripped
of its rotted parts.
|

The Scouts sanded
the usable parts - -
|

- - then replaced
the
rotted wood, reassembled the cart and painted it.
|

As the last step,
Matt completed his written project plan and submitted it to the BSA for
final approval
|
We are indebted to Matt, his friends and Scout leaders
Bob Ryan and Steven Osman for their efforts in bringing this mutually
beneficial project to fruition.
